The HotModule - high-tech in cylindrical form
The HotModule owes its name to the compact arrangement of all the hot components in one cylindrical vessel. It contains the core of the installation: the stack of fuel cells, sometimes simply called stack. A key feature of the HotModule is the horizontal arrangement of the stack, which means that the fuel gas can be fed from below. At the same time, the weight of the cell stack automatically seals off the system on the fuel gas side, which aids safe operation.
The stack is put together from the individual fuel cells vertically; only when assembly is complete is the stack tipped and mounted on the fuel gas distributor fitted into the HotModule. The HotModule is characterised by its compact dimensions, which is particularly important when fitting in existing rooms. Furthermore, it is easy to transport and easy to access for maintenance purposes.
The integrated gas feed within the HotModule means that expensive pipe installation can be dispensed with - fuel gas inlet, air inlet, exhaust gas outlet and water feed are all that are required.
The following pages give more information on the operation of the HotModule.
